Application Sharing of Plastic Pellet Rotary Vibrating Sieve: Supporting Smooth and Continuous Production in the Pelletizing Process

Application Sharing of Plastic Pellet Rotary Vibrating Sieve: Supporting Smooth and Continuous Production in the Pelletizing Process

1. The Role of the Screening Node in the Pelletizing Process

A typical pelletizing process includes melt extrusion, pellet cutting, cooling, drying, and screening. After cutting, pellets may generate linked pellets, burred pellets, cutting debris, and fines during cooling and conveying. If these materials directly enter the finished product bin or packaging stage, they will affect pellet appearance, flowability, and downstream processing stability.

At this node, the rotary vibrating sieve undertakes three tasks. First, inspection screening: intercepting linked pellets and oversize pellets to prevent them from entering the finished product. Second, fines and debris removal: screening out fines and debris generated during pellet cutting to reduce dust content in the finished product. Third, particle size classification: for products with particle size specification requirements, separating qualified pellets from oversize pellets according to the target particle size. The three tasks can be completed on the same machine through multi-layer screen configuration, reducing intermediate transfer steps.

The Gaofu S49 Series Rotary Vibrating Sieve uses a vertical vibration motor to drive upper and lower eccentric weights, causing the screen surface to generate horizontal, vertical, and inclined compound motion. Material moves in a spiral trajectory on the screen surface, spreading from the center to the edge. For plastic pellets, this movement mode causes pellets to tumble and stratify on the screen surface. Qualified pellets pass through the screen, and oversize pellets are discharged along the screen surface. The equipment can be equipped with 1 to 5 screen layers, simultaneously performing 2 to 6 grades of separation or filtration. The reference screening accuracy can reach 600 mesh (0.02 mm), the reference filtration accuracy can reach 5 microns, the reference grading efficiency is 90% to 98%, and the reference normal service life of the equipment is 15 to 20 years. The above parameters are for reference only. Actual selection should be confirmed based on pellet characteristics, capacity targets, and site conditions, and is subject to actual equipment selection.

2. Inspection Screening After Pelletizing: Handling Linked Pellets, Debris, and Fines

Plastic pellets after pelletizing differ in shape and surface condition. Cylindrical, spherical, flake-shaped, and irregular pellets have different movement states on the screen surface. Linked pellets and burred pellets more easily remain on the screen surface or wedge into screen openings. The configuration of the rotary vibrating sieve in inspection screening needs to address these specific forms.

The top screen undertakes the interception task. Its aperture is determined according to pellet specifications and the possible size of linked pellets and oversize pellets. The top layer does not undertake finished product particle size control; it protects the middle screen and finished product purity. For inspection screening before packaging, the top layer can also intercept foreign matter such as packaging bag debris and sealing thread ends. The top screen bears relatively large material impact and foreign matter load, and its tension and damage condition should be checked regularly.

The middle screen is the key layer controlling finished pellet size specifications. Its aperture is selected according to the target pellet size. Qualified pellets pass through to the lower layer, and oversize pellets are discharged along the screen surface from an independent discharge outlet. The selection of middle-layer mesh needs to balance particle size concentration and screening efficiency. If the mesh is too high, screening resistance for qualified pellets increases, capacity decreases, and pellet residence time on the screen surface is extended. If the mesh is too low, oversize pellets may enter the finished product, and particle size control fails.

The bottom screen or sieve bottom collects fines and pellet cutting debris. Fines can be processed separately, reused, or treated as waste according to process requirements. For products requiring relatively high pellet surface cleanliness, fines removal is part of finished product quality control. Each layer’s discharge outlet is set independently, and coarse material, qualified pellets, and fines are discharged separately, reducing repeated transfer and mixed grades.

3. Feeding and Material Travel Connection in Continuous Operation

The pelletizing process discharges continuously, and the feeding stability of the screening equipment directly affects the rhythm of the entire line. If feeding is too fast, the material layer on the screen surface becomes thicker, fines and debris do not have enough time to pass through, and pellets accumulate on the screen surface. If feeding is too slow, the equipment capacity cannot be fully utilized, and the downstream packaging or batching stage may wait.

In actual applications, the feed inlet can be connected to the upstream cooler or conveying equipment through a flexible sleeve or enclosed interface to reduce material leakage at the interface and external impurity ingress. For scenarios with relatively large upstream discharge fluctuations, a buffer silo or flow stabilization structure can be installed before the sieve to make the material flow entering the screen surface relatively uniform. A distribution plate or buffer device can be installed at the feed inlet to distribute pellets evenly across the screen width and avoid concentrated impact on one area.

The material travel state on the screen surface needs to match pellet characteristics. Amplitude can be adjusted through the eccentric block angle, and screen surface inclination can be adjusted within a certain range. For pellets with relatively good flowability and regular shape, amplitude or inclination can be appropriately increased to accelerate material travel. For flake-shaped, irregular, or static-prone pellets, parameter adjustment needs to balance dispersion and screening, avoiding pellet accumulation or excessive bouncing on the screen surface. Specific parameters need to be determined based on material testing and operating observation, and are subject to actual equipment selection.

In a multi-layer configuration, the tension state of each screen layer should remain consistent. If the screen is too loose, secondary vibration and material accumulation easily occur. If too tight, screen life may be affected. After screen changes, check tension layer by layer and recheck after a period of operation. When tension is stable, vibration transmission on the screen surface is uniform, and the material travel state of pellets on the screen surface is more controllable.

4. Coordination of Screen Cleaning, Enclosure, and Electrostatic Grounding

In plastic pellet screening, fines and debris may wedge into screen openings, and materials with relatively strong static electricity may cause fines to adhere to the screen. Screen cleaning, enclosure, and electrostatic grounding need to work together to maintain a stable screening state.

In terms of screen cleaning, the equipment can be equipped with a bouncing-ball screen cleaning device. Bouncing balls are located below the screen and continuously bounce under vibration, striking the underside of the screen to dislodge wedged or adhering pellets and fines. For plastic pellet working conditions with more severe fine powder adhesion or stronger static electricity, the suitability of an ultrasonic screen cleaning system can be evaluated. The choice of screen cleaning method should be determined based on pellet shape, fine content, static tendency, and actual blinding conditions.

In terms of enclosed structure, the rotary vibrating sieve can use a fully enclosed structure, with sealed connections at the feed inlet, discharge outlet, reject outlet, and inspection ports to reduce the dispersion of fines and debris into the workshop and also reduce external impurity ingress into the screening chamber. A dust collection interface can be set on the upper cover to connect to the on-site dust collection system. For inspection screening before packaging, the enclosed structure helps maintain finished product cleanliness.

In terms of electrostatic grounding, plastic pellets easily generate static electricity during conveying and screening. Fine powder adheres to the screen, screen frame, and areas near the discharge outlet, affecting screening and finished product cleanliness. The equipment should implement reliable electrostatic grounding, and metal components and pipe flange connections of the system should maintain continuity. Grounding connections should be included in regular inspection, as vibration and disassembly may loosen connection points. For materials with relatively strong static electricity, anti-static screens or related measures can be evaluated. Specific configurations need to be confirmed based on material testing and site conditions.

5. Configuration Differences Under Different Pellet Forms and Production Scenarios

The configuration priorities of the rotary vibrating sieve need to be adjusted according to plastic pellet category, shape, and pelletizing process.

For pellets with regular shape and relatively good flowability, such as cylindrical or spherical pellets, material travel on the screen surface is relatively smooth. Amplitude or inclination can be appropriately increased to improve screening efficiency. The screen cleaning configuration can use bouncing-ball screen cleaning according to fine content. Screen tension needs to be maintained to avoid excessive pellet bouncing on the screen surface.

For flake-shaped, irregular, or burred pellets, the material travel state on the screen surface is unstable, and pellets easily remain on the screen surface or wedge into screen openings. During configuration, attention should be paid to screen tension and screen cleaning method, and an ultrasonic screen cleaning system can be evaluated when necessary. The feed rate should be stable to avoid an excessively thick material layer on the screen surface.

For production scenarios with multi-product and multi-color changeovers, residual pellets in the screen, screen frame, and discharge outlet need to be cleaned to avoid color mixing and cross-contamination. The screen uses a quick-release mesh frame. The screen frame and discharge outlet should be easy to open and inspect, and seals should be easy to replace. The cleaning SOP should specify disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and inspection steps.

For continuous, larger-capacity production scenarios, the equipment needs to connect with the upstream pelletizer and downstream packaging line. The feed inlet and discharge outlet should preferably use enclosed connections or flexible sleeves to reduce dust escape at connection points. Processing capacity needs to match production line rhythm to avoid the screening stage becoming a bottleneck.

6. Selection Communication and Material Testing

Selection of a plastic pellet rotary vibrating sieve needs to focus on pellet characteristics, capacity targets, screening accuracy, material requirements, screen cleaning method, and workshop conditions. During selection communication, it is recommended to provide the equipment supplier with: plastic pellet categories and material characteristics (pellet shape, particle size distribution, bulk density, flowability, static tendency, fine and linked pellet content), single-shift or continuous processing volume, finished pellet size standards and impurity removal requirements, screen mesh, material hygiene requirements, workshop space and floor height, dust explosion hazardous area classification, and upstream and downstream equipment interface conditions.

For materials such as plastic pellets, it is advisable to conduct on-machine testing with actual materials before selection to observe screening performance under different screen meshes, layer configurations, screen cleaning methods, and vibration parameters, impurity removal performance, finished pellet size distribution, and fine content. If conditions permit, screening efficiency and screen condition after a period of continuous operation can be recorded during testing as a reference for evaluating the suitability of the configuration plan. Equipment parameters are reference values. Actual selection should be confirmed based on material testing results and site conditions.

Gaofu Machinery can provide selection recommendations and customized solution support for plastic pellet rotary vibrating sieves based on plastic pellet material characteristics, capacity targets, and workshop conditions. Equipment configuration should be based on actual testing and process requirements and should not simply copy parameters from other materials or workshops.

7. Conclusion

The application of the plastic pellet rotary vibrating sieve in the pelletizing process is not centered on blindly increasing screen mesh, but on assigning several tasks—linked pellet interception, particle size classification, and fines removal—to different layers according to pellet shape, particle size specifications, and finished product requirements, and combining this with screen cleaning methods, enclosed structure, and electrostatic grounding matched to pellet characteristics. Stable feeding, uniform material travel on the screen surface, and consistent screen tension are the basic conditions for continuous operation. Daily maintenance of the screen cleaning device, seals, and grounding condition determines whether the screening state can remain stable over a relatively long period. For plastics processing enterprises facing problems such as linked pellets, fines, particle size fluctuations, and multi-product changeovers, targeted configuration based on material characteristics and pelletizing process rhythm is more practically meaningful than simply comparing equipment parameters.
