In the production of fruit juices, purees and jams, filtration and screening are the critical steps that determine product clarity, mouthfeel and quality. Whether it is apple juice, orange juice, grape juice or blended fruit and vegetable juice, the raw juice obtained after pressing or pulping contains a large amount of solid impurities – pulp fibres, peel fragments, seed pieces, coarse fibre and more. If these impurities are not effectively removed, they will not only affect the appearance and taste of the finished product but may also cause sedimentation, turbidity and other quality issues.
Filtration is more than just "removing pulp." From a process perspective, filtration helps stabilise the juice, extend shelf life, and prevent nozzle clogging and uneven texture during processing. Therefore, selecting the right filtration equipment directly affects the efficiency of the entire production line and the quality of the final product.
Different juice products have completely different requirements for filtration accuracy.
Clear Juices: Pursuing Ultimate Transparency
Clear juices such as apple juice, grape juice and pomegranate juice require the removal of all pulp and visible solids. These juices typically need to go through both coarse and fine filtration – first using a coarser screen to remove pulp and impurities, then a finer screen for precise filtration.
In citrus juice production, for example, coarse filtration uses a 20‑mesh screen to remove peel fragments, membrane, coarse pulp and seeds; fine filtration then uses an 80‑mesh screen to further remove fine suspended solids. For premium clear juices, filtration accuracy can be increased to 200 mesh or even finer.
Cloudy Juices: Retaining Pulp While Controlling Particles
Cloudy juices such as orange juice, mango juice and tomato juice need to retain some pulp to maintain mouthfeel, but must also remove coarse fibres and hard particles. The challenge in filtering these juices lies in "precise control" – effectively removing impurities while retaining the right amount of pulp and particle size.
Fruit Purees and Jams: High Fibre, High Viscosity
Fruit purees such as strawberry, mango and peach have high fibre content and high viscosity, placing greater demands on the equipment's anti‑blinding capability. Ordinary filtration equipment handling these materials is highly prone to screen blinding due to fibre and pectin, leading to frequent stoppages for cleaning.

Multi‑Deck Screen Configuration: Coarse and Fine Filtration in a Single Pass
The equipment supports 1 to 5 screen decks , enabling simultaneous separation into 2 to 6 grades. Screens of different apertures are arranged from top to bottom. After juice enters from the feed port, coarse impurities are intercepted on the upper decks, while fine impurities are removed on the lower decks.
Taking a two‑deck configuration as an example:
First deck (coarser mesh, e.g., 20 mesh): Intercepts large impurities such as peel fragments, membrane, coarse pulp and seeds
Second deck (finer mesh, e.g., 80 mesh): Removes fine fibres, pectin and suspended solids

Flexible Screen Mesh Selection: Adapting to Different Juice Accuracy Requirements

Anti‑Blinding Design: Solving the High‑Fibre Blinding Problem
To address the high‑viscosity and high‑fibre characteristics of fruit juice and pulp, the Gaofu rotary vibrating sieve incorporates anti‑blinding design with efficient cleaning devices, ensuring the screen remains clear for extended periods. Food‑grade silicone bouncing balls placed under the screen deck continuously tap the underside of the screen during operation, dislodging fibre and pectin particles blocking the mesh openings – continuous, automatic, and requiring no manual intervention.
