Over 10,000+ customers' choice, Focus on screening industry 40+ years
The difficulty of food powder filtration ultimately stems from its physical properties. Before selection, the following questions need to be clarified:
Fineness range determines screen mesh size. Different food powders have significantly different target fineness – starch typically requires 80‑120 mesh screening, powdered sugar can be as fine as 200 mesh or above, and seasoning powders have stricter particle size distribution standards. The filtration sieve can screen down to 400 mesh, with a screening particle size range covering 0.038‑5 mm. During selection, choose the screen mesh according to the target fineness of the material – mesh that is too fine will prevent powder from passing through, so a balance must be struck between filtration efficiency and throughput.
Hygroscopicity and lumping tendency affect equipment configuration. Materials such as powdered sugar and milk powder are hygroscopic and prone to lumping – during filtration, they readily block the screen. For such materials, effective screen cleaning devices such as bouncing ball cleaning systems are required. Hygroscopic materials also require attention to the equipment's sealing performance to prevent external moisture from entering the screening chamber.
Static characteristics determine whether an ultrasonic system is needed. Materials such as powdered sugar and starch readily generate static electricity through particle friction during filtration – fine powder adheres to the screen surface forming a "powder film" that blocks the mesh. For static‑prone, easily agglomerated ultra‑fine powders (e.g., above 300 mesh), an ultrasonic cleaning system is recommended – high‑frequency vibration keeps fine powder in a "suspended" state, effectively inhibiting adhesion and blinding.
Bulk density affects throughput expectations. Lightweight powders (such as starch and seasoning powders) tend to float on the screen surface – screening efficiency is relatively lower – so a certain capacity margin should be reserved during selection.
Food powders are consumed directly or indirectly, placing extremely strict demands on filtration equipment materials and hygiene standards. All material‑contact parts must comply with GB 4806.1‑2022 "National Food Safety Standard – General Safety Requirements for Food Contact Materials and Products" .
Material selection – 304 stainless steel is the basic requirement. Gaofu's filtration sieve uses 304 stainless steel for all material‑contact parts (316L available upon request) – with nickel content ≥8% and chromium content ≥18% – surfaces are easy to clean, preventing metal contamination from rusting or corrosion from entering food powders. Ordinary carbon steel or galvanised materials are prone to rusting and flaking – one rice mill was fined after using a carbon steel screen body, and its product was found to contain excessive iron filings.
Surface finish – mirror‑polished with no dead corners. Internal and external surfaces are finely polished with no dead corners. All welds are finely ground – no recesses, no gaps for material to hide – preventing material residue and bacterial growth. For high‑cleanliness materials such as milk powder and protein powder, 316L stainless steel – with its added molybdenum content offering even better corrosion resistance – is the preferred choice.
Seals – food‑grade silicone. Equipment seals are made of food‑grade silicone – non‑toxic, no harmful substance release, resistant to high and low temperatures (-40°C to 200°C) – adapting to the cleaning and sanitisation processes of food production lines. The fully enclosed structure, combined with food‑grade silicone seals, effectively prevents dust emission and material cross‑contamination during filtration.
Food processors typically handle multiple product varieties – powdered sugar, starch, seasoning powders, protein powder, etc. – with frequent changeovers between different materials. The structural design of filtration equipment directly affects cleaning efficiency and downtime during product changeovers.
Dead‑corner‑free design – eliminating material residue. The screen box interior features rounded transition design (radius ≥5mm) – replacing right‑angle designs – preventing food powder accumulation. After one milk powder plant changed from right‑angle to rounded screen boxes, material residue decreased from 0.5% to 0.01%.
Quick‑release structure – screen changes in just 3‑5 minutes. Gaofu's filtration sieve features a unique screen frame design – screen changes are easy, operation is simple, and cleaning is convenient. Screen changes take only 3‑5 minutes and can be completed by a single operator. For production lines requiring frequent changeovers between different food powder varieties, this feature significantly reduces changeover downtime and improves equipment utilisation.
Fully enclosed structure – eliminating cross‑contamination. The equipment features a fully enclosed structure – from the feed inlet to the discharge outlet, all connections are sealed. Food powder remains in an enclosed environment from entering the screening chamber to finished product discharge – fine powder cannot escape through equipment gaps. The fully enclosed structure, combined with dust‑proof covers and sealing strips, effectively suppresses dust emission and improves the working environment.
Filtration equipment capacity selection should be determined according to the production line's actual processing volume.
Throughput positioning – suitable for small‑to‑medium output, low impurity conditions. Gaofu's filtration sieve uses a vibration motor as the excitation source – it is a small vibrating screening machine with high screening efficiency, low noise, and a compact design. It is particularly suitable for handling materials with low production volume or low impurity content. In food powder filtration scenarios, the filtration sieve is often used for raw material pre‑treatment filtration or quality control filtration before finished product dispatch.
Model selection – Φ450 and Φ550 specifications. Gaofu's filtration sieve is mainly available in Φ450 mm and Φ550 mm screen frame diameters. The Φ450 model has a motor power of 0.18 kW, and the Φ550 model has a motor power of 0.25 kW – flexible selection according to actual capacity requirements.
Compact size – flexible placement in limited spaces. The filtration sieve is small and lightweight – making full use of available space and easy to move. Whether for sample analysis on the laboratory bench or routine filtration in the production workshop, it can be flexibly positioned without occupying excessive space. The equipment can be installed in any required position and is easy to relocate – adapting to different production line layouts.
The most common challenge in food powder filtration is blinding – fine particles blocking the mesh cause filtration efficiency to drop, requiring frequent stoppages for cleaning. During selection, choose the appropriate cleaning method according to material characteristics.
Bouncing ball cleaning – standard configuration for conventional materials. High‑elasticity rubber balls are installed below the screen – during vibration, they continuously strike the screen, "popping" particles wedged in the mesh and keeping the screen surface permeable. Suitable for filtration of conventional food powders such as powdered sugar, starch, and seasoning powders. The bouncing ball cleaning system operates automatically throughout the filtration process without manual intervention – achieving "screening‑while‑cleaning."
Ultrasonic cleaning system – upgraded configuration for ultra‑fine powders. For ultra‑fine powders above 300 mesh or materials prone to static and agglomeration, conventional bouncing ball cleaning has limited effectiveness. Gaofu's filtration sieve can be optionally equipped with an ultrasonic cleaning system – high‑frequency vibration keeps fine powder in a "suspended" state on the screen surface, effectively inhibiting adhesion and blinding. The ultrasonic system and bouncing ball system can be used in combination – forming a dual safeguard of "physical cleaning + high‑frequency anti‑adhesion."
