Coconut flakes are an important raw material in the baking, dessert, filling and snack food industries. As downstream demand continues to grow, coconut flake processing is moving towards larger‑scale, continuous production. However, one persistent problem has long plagued manufacturers during the screening stage – screen blinding and blockage.
The material properties of coconut flakes make them significantly more difficult to screen than ordinary powder materials.
Coconut flakes are a mixture of granular and flocculent material with a light, fluffy texture. Their fat content is as high as 40% to 60% , which makes them highly prone to adhering to the screen during screening, causing severe blinding. Oily fine particles stick to the screen surface, gradually forming a dense "oil film" that continuously reduces the effective screening area. At the same time, the fine fibres in coconut flakes tend to wrap around the edges of the mesh openings, further aggravating the blockage.
In addition to oil adhesion and fibre entanglement, coconut flakes are also highly hygroscopic and readily absorb moisture in the production environment, leading to caking. Caked material on one hand blocks the mesh openings, and on the other hand is rejected as waste, causing raw material loss.
Oil adhesion + fibre entanglement + moisture‑induced caking – these three problems overlap, making coconut flakes a recognised "difficult‑to‑screen" material. Traditional screening equipment, when handling coconut flakes, commonly faces multiple challenges including frequent screen blinding, low screening efficiency, insufficient throughput, severe dust dispersion and raw material waste.
Screen blinding during coconut flake screening triggers a chain reaction that goes far beyond just "stopping to clean the screen."
Production line interruptions. Once the screen blinds, screening efficiency drops sharply, and operators are forced to stop the machine, remove the screen, clean it and reinstall it. Every unscheduled stoppage represents a direct loss of capacity.
Increased labour costs. Frequent screen cleaning consumes a significant amount of man‑hours. In large‑scale production, the higher the cleaning frequency, the shorter the effective running time of the production line.
Raw material waste. Coconut flake material trapped in the mesh openings is often discarded during cleaning. For coconut flakes, which have a high fat content and considerable economic value, every gram of wasted material adds to production costs.
Product quality fluctuations. Blinding leads to insufficient screening, making it impossible to effectively separate coarse and fine coconut flakes – coarse particles mix into fine powder, resulting in a rough texture in the finished product; fine powder mixes into coarse particles, compromising appearance. Product pass rates become difficult to stabilise.
Coconut flake screening typically requires a wide mesh range from 8 to 120 mesh , with a throughput of 300 to 800 kg/hour. If the blinding problem is not effectively solved, these production targets become difficult to achieve.
To address the high‑oil and easy‑blinding challenges of coconut flakes, the Gaofu SZF series coconut flakes linear vibrating screen incorporates systematic anti‑blinding design at multiple levels.
Unique Screen Mounting Structure – Reducing Blinding at the Structural Level
The Gaofu coconut flakes linear vibrating screen uses a unique screen mounting structure that effectively reduces screen blinding and avoids cross‑contamination between grades. Proper screen tension is critical – by optimising the tensioning method, the screen maintains moderate tension, preventing vibration attenuation and blinding caused by screen slackness.
Adjustable Excitation Source – Enhancing Material Flowability
The equipment features an adjustable excitation source that enhances the jumping intensity and flowability of the material on the screen surface by optimising vibration parameters.
The material moves forward on the screen surface in a parabolic jumping trajectory. Oily coconut flakes continuously tumble and shift during the jumping motion, preventing local accumulation and adhesive layer formation on the screen surface. Fibres are naturally loosened during the jumping motion, avoiding concentrated entanglement. Enhanced jumping intensity + improved flowability – reduces blinding risk through the motion pattern itself.
Bouncing Ball Cleaning System – Continuous Physical Screen Cleaning
To address fibre entanglement and fine powder adhesion, the Gaofu coconut flakes linear vibrating screen can be equipped with a bouncing ball cleaning system. Food‑grade silicone balls are installed between the screen and the support layer, continuously bouncing up and down during screening, repeatedly tapping the underside of the screen.
The high‑frequency tapping of the bouncing balls produces three direct effects: it shakes off oily material adhering to the mesh openings; it dislodges fibres wrapped around the mesh edges; and it clears particles lodged in the apertures. Vibration + impact – this dual screen‑cleaning mechanism keeps the screen clear during continuous operation.
For ultra‑fine powders or more sticky materials, an optional ultrasonic anti‑blinding system can be added, using high‑frequency micro‑vibration to further break the adhesion between material and the screen.
The value of the Gaofu SZF series coconut flakes linear vibrating screen goes beyond just "anti‑blinding." While solving the screen blinding problem, the equipment also offers a range of complementary advantages that fully adapt to the production needs of large‑scale coconut flake processing.
Multi‑deck classification – one feed, multiple grades out. The equipment supports 1 to 5 screen decks , allowing a single machine with a single feed to simultaneously complete coarse, medium and fine classification. Coarse coconut flakes (8‑14 mesh) are discharged from the top outlet, medium flakes (14‑30 mesh) from the middle outlet, and fine flakes (30‑120 mesh) from the bottom outlet – each to its proper place without interference.
Fully enclosed structure – dust and moisture protection. The equipment has a fully enclosed frame design, with screening taking place inside a sealed chamber. The fully enclosed design provides three assurances: preventing dust escape, improving the workshop environment; effectively blocking external moisture, reducing the risk of secondary moisture absorption of the coconut flakes during screening; and preventing foreign matter from entering the screening system, ensuring the purity of the coconut flakes.
Quick screen changes – efficient multi‑specification changeovers. The mother‑child screen frame structure allows screen changes in just 3 to 5 minutes. Switching between different mesh sizes is convenient and efficient, greatly reducing downtime for product changeovers and adapting to alternating production of multiple coconut flake specifications.
24‑hour continuous operation – supporting large‑scale production. The combination of anti‑blinding design, fully enclosed structure and automatic discharge enables the equipment to run 24 hours continuously. For coconut flake processors requiring continuous production line operations, this means no loss of capacity and no interruption of efficiency.
Food‑grade stainless steel – ensuring food safety. Coconut flakes are used directly in food processing, so the material selection of screening equipment is directly related to food safety. Material‑contact parts of the Gaofu coconut flakes linear vibrating screen can be made of 304/316L food‑grade stainless steel , with finely polished surfaces, no hygiene dead corners, and easy to clean. This eliminates the risk of metal contamination at the material source.
