During the processing and use of powdered sugar, three major challenges constantly test production managers:

Sugar particles are fine with a large specific surface area — they have extensive contact with air and readily absorb environmental moisture. Once moisture is absorbed, the surface of the sugar particles dissolves to form a syrup film, and adjacent particles recrystallise and bond together during drying, forming hard lumps.


More troublesome is that fine sugar particles generate static electricity through friction during screening. Charged fines attract each other to form agglomerates. The combination of moisture‑induced lumps and electrostatic agglomeration makes powdered sugar significantly more difficult to screen than ordinary powdered materials. Conventional screening equipment processing sugar often suffers from "blinding shortly after starting" — frequent stoppages for cleaning not only reduce throughput but also increase labour costs.
