  • Three Major Challenges in Mustard Powder Screening

The physical characteristics of mustard powder present three major challenges during screening:


Easy agglomeration. Mustard contains a certain proportion of plant fibre – after grinding, these fibres exist as fine particles in the powder, easily intertwining to form agglomerates. The fibrous components cause powder adhesion and lumping, increasing particle size and reducing screening efficiency.


Easy screen blinding. Mustard powder has strong adsorbability and tends to generate static electricity. During screening, friction between particles readily produces static charges – powder adheres to the screen surface and blocks the mesh. Ordinary screens can become "clogged" almost instantly when screening mustard powder, leading to frequent stoppages for cleaning.


Low bulk density. Mustard powder particles are fine, light, and easily suspended – on conventional screening equipment, they struggle to pass through high‑mesh screens by gravity alone, often failing to meet design expectations for screening accuracy and throughput.


These three challenges intertwine, making conventional screening equipment struggle with mustard powder. Conventional rotary vibrating screens typically achieve throughput of only around 50 kg/h when processing mustard powder. The traditional approach of "clean after blinding, then blind again" treats the symptoms rather than the root cause, fundamentally failing to solve the problem.


  • Application Scenarios for Ultrasonic Vibrating Sieves

Specifically for mustard powder processing, the following scenarios are particularly suitable for ultrasonic vibrating sieves:


Scenario 1: Fine screening of mustard powder (30‑45 mesh and above). Mustard powder typically requires 30‑45 mesh screening, with throughput of 500‑700 kg/h. For premium mustard paste, instant seasoning sachets, and other products requiring fine texture, finer screening mesh is needed. The ultrasonic vibrating sieve can effectively screen ultra‑fine powders at 400 mesh, 500 mesh, and 600 mesh – screened mustard powder has no grainy texture or residue.


Scenario 2: Impurity removal screening of mustard powder. The primary purpose of mustard powder screening is impurity removal. Fibre lumps, foreign matter, packaging debris, and other contaminants in raw materials need to be removed through screening. The ultrasonic vibrating sieve keeps powder in a "suspended" state on the screen surface through high‑frequency vibration – preventing adhesion to the screen and ensuring more stable impurity removal.


Scenario 3: Multi‑product changeover production. Seasoning producers typically handle multiple materials – chilli powder, pepper powder, five‑spice powder, spice powders, compound seasonings, food additive powders, salt, MSG, and more. The ultrasonic vibrating sieve can provide targeted screening solutions according to different material characteristics – flexibly adapting to multi‑product production needs.


Scenario 4: High‑value fine powder screening. Mustard powder is a high‑value seasoning material – sensitive to material loss and quality changes during screening. The ultrasonic vibrating sieve changes the contamination and wear caused by conventional screening methods on powders – the screening process is gentle and generates no heat, effectively preserving the original properties of the material.


  • Selection Points

1. Select the model according to throughput. Different models have significantly different processing capacities. S49‑AC‑600 (Φ560 mm, screening area 0.25 m²) is suitable for laboratory and small‑batch production; S49‑AC‑1000 (Φ930 mm, screening area 0.68 m²) is a commonly used model suitable for most industrial production scenarios; S49‑AC‑1800/2000 (Φ1730‑1920 mm, screening area 2.35‑2.9 m²) is suitable for large‑scale screening production lines. Mustard powder processors should select the appropriate model according to their daily throughput and peak demand – avoiding under‑sizing or over‑sizing.


2. Select screen mesh according to screening accuracy. The S49‑AC series covers screen mesh from 2 to 500 mesh. Mustard powder typically requires 30‑45 mesh screening – for premium products, finer mesh can be selected. In mustard powder screening, the ultrasonic vibrating sieve can effectively screen ultra‑fine powders at 400 mesh, 500 mesh, and 600 mesh.


3. Select configuration according to the number of screen decks. The S49‑AC series supports flexible configurations of 1 to 5 screen decks. For mustard powder processing, different deck counts can be selected according to impurity removal and grading requirements – the upper deck intercepts fibre lumps and foreign matter, the middle deck achieves fine grading, and the lower deck acts as a safety screen to ensure finished product purity.


4. Select configuration according to material requirements. Mustard powder is widely used in food processing and home cooking, placing high hygiene demands on production equipment. 5. Confirm whether ultrasonic system is needed based on material characteristics. Not all materials require ultrasonic vibrating sieves. If the material is coarser and has good flowability, a conventional vibrating screen may be sufficient. However, if the material is fine, prone to blinding, static‑prone, easily agglomerated, or requires higher screening accuracy, an ultrasonic vibrating sieve is the more suitable choice.


  • Selection Recommendations

When selecting an ultrasonic vibrating sieve for mustard powder processing, it is recommended to follow these steps:


Step 1: Define screening requirements. Confirm the primary purpose of screening – impurity removal, grading, or both – and define the target screening mesh (mustard powder typically 30‑45 mesh) and throughput requirements.


Step 2: Assess material characteristics. Confirm the fineness, moisture content, static condition, agglomeration tendency, etc., of the mustard powder. If the mustard powder contains fibre components and is prone to electrostatic agglomeration, an ultrasonic vibrating sieve should be prioritised.


Step 3: Match the equipment model. Select the appropriate model from S49‑AC‑600 to S49‑AC‑2000 according to throughput. If uncertain, provide material samples to the manufacturer for free material testing.


Step 4: Confirm material and configuration. For food‑grade applications, 304 or 316L stainless steel is recommended. Select the number of screen decks (1‑5) according to grading requirements.
