In modern salt production lines processing hundreds of tonnes or more per day, screening equipment faces several problems that conventional vibrating screens struggle to avoid:
Throughput bottlenecks are evident. Conventional vibrating screens aim for "particle‑by‑particle screening" – every salt particle must bounce repeatedly on the screen surface to find a mesh opening. When the material bed is thick and throughput is high, material congestion inevitably occurs, and screening efficiency drops sharply. In coarse screening of manufactured sand and dry mortar, single‑machine capacity of conventional screens often gets stuck at 50‑60 tonnes/hour. For salt processing, which also requires large‑volume continuous screening, this bottleneck is equally present.
Frequent blinding affects continuous operation. Salt crystals are cubic in shape and can easily become wedged in mesh openings during screening, causing blinding. Conventional screens processing materials with high fines content often require cleaning every 2‑4 hours. Frequent stoppages not only reduce throughput but also increase labour costs.
Short screen life and high maintenance costs. During long‑duration continuous operation, conventional vibrating screens experience rapid screen wear and require frequent replacement. Each screen change means production interruption and labour input.
Large equipment footprint limits line layout. To achieve target throughput, some plants choose multiple screens in parallel. But multiple machines mean more floor space, more complex air duct layout, and more maintenance points.
The GLS series salt probability screen differs fundamentally from conventional vibrating screens in its underlying logic.
Conventional vibrating screens operate on a logic similar to "individual inspection" – each particle must bounce repeatedly on the screen surface to find a mesh opening. When the material bed is thick and throughput is high, congestion naturally occurs. The probability screen uses a completely different logic: increasing the probability of passage and shortening the material's residence time on the screen surface.
This logic is achieved through three core design features:
High‑inclination screen surface. The screen surface inclination of the probability screen is far greater than conventional screens (typically 20° to 60°, compared with 0°‑15° for conventional screens). The high inclination gives material high initial velocity at the feed end – the material bed rapidly thins and moves forward quickly. Salt particles move rapidly across the screen surface like "riding a slide" – fine particles have sufficient opportunity to pass through quickly, while coarse particles are discharged rapidly.
Large‑aperture screen mesh. The screen aperture is typically designed at 1.2 to 2.2 times the separation particle size. Because the mesh openings are larger than the target particles, particles are less likely to become wedged – greatly reducing blinding probability and ensuring throughput per unit time. This is not a compromise on accuracy – it is "screening fine material with large holes" – as long as the target particle size can pass through.
Multi‑deck screen configuration. The equipment can be configured with 2 to 5 screen decks for one feed and multiple discharges. Salt passes through each deck sequentially from coarse to fine – coarse salt, medium salt, fine salt, and ultra‑fine salt powder are produced simultaneously in one feed. In coarse sand screening of manufactured sand and natural sand, the probability screen achieves 3‑6 times the throughput of conventional screens, with single‑machine hourly throughput reaching 10‑300 tonnes. For salt processing, this means a single probability screen can match the screening requirements of high‑capacity salt production lines – no need for multiple machines in parallel. High‑inclination design for rapid material passage without accumulation.
The probability screen uses a high‑inclination screen surface (above 20°) – material flow velocity is significantly higher than conventional screens. Salt particles move rapidly across the screen surface with the material bed quickly thinning – fine particles are no longer "buried" and screening efficiency improves significantly. Under normal operating conditions, continuous screen service life can be maintained for over 60 days. Front and rear discharge ports use detachable design, making screen replacement relatively simple.
