Over 10,000+ customers' choice, Focus on screening industry 40+ years
Chili powder is the "soul" of Sichuan, Hunan and Hubei cuisine. Whether used in hotpot bases, chili oil or snack seasonings, its fineness and purity directly determine the taste and appearance of the finished product. However, chili powder screening has always been a persistent challenge for seasoning manufacturers – powder dispersion, screen blinding and fine powder agglomeration.
Seasoning screening often faces two major problems: first, fine powder easily blinds the screen, affecting production efficiency; second, high screening accuracy is required, which ordinary equipment struggles to achieve consistently.
For chili powder, this contradiction is particularly pronounced. According to national standard GB/T 23183‑2009, the fineness of chili powder (40‑mesh passing rate) must be ≥99%. However, chili powder particles are extremely fine with a large specific surface area, making them prone to moisture absorption and agglomeration, which can trap impurities and increase separation difficulty. When traditional screening equipment handles chili powder, it often falls into the repetitive cycle of "blinding – stoppage – cleaning – blinding again," compromising both line efficiency and product quality.
So, what key factors should seasoning factories focus on when selecting the right equipment?
1. Define Target Mesh Size and Throughput Requirements
Chili powder screening typically requires a mesh size of 40 to 45 mesh , with a throughput of approximately 500 kg/h. However, different applications require different fineness levels – hotpot bases may need coarser powder, while instant noodle seasoning packets require extremely fine powder.
The Gaofu S49 series rotary vibrating sieve can achieve screening fineness up to 600 mesh (0.02 mm) and filtration precision down to 5 microns. Standard chili powder models offer effective screen diameters from 350 to 1,750 mm, with screening capacities ranging from 100 to 3,300 kg/h. A single machine can be equipped with 1 to 5 screen decks (2 to 500 mesh), enabling uniform classification of chili powder into 2 to 6 different specifications.
When selecting equipment, seasoning factories should determine the appropriate screen mesh size and model based on their target product fineness and capacity requirements.
2. Test the Material First, Then Determine the Mesh Size
A common misconception in equipment selection is that "higher mesh means finer screening." However, for sticky materials such as chili powder, using excessively high mesh sizes actually aggravates blinding. The correct approach is: test the particle size distribution of the material first, then select a mesh size 1.5 to 2 times larger than the maximum particle size.
For example, if the maximum particle size of the chili powder is approximately 0.3 mm, choosing a 50‑60 mesh screen is often more reliable than going directly to 80 mesh – it ensures both an adequate passing rate and a lower risk of blinding.
Why Does Chili Powder Blind the Screen?
Chili powder blinding is caused by three factors: fine powder adhesion – powder forms a "powder film" on the screen surface; fibre entanglement – chili fibres wrap around the mesh openings; and electrostatic adhesion – fine powder accumulates static charge during high‑speed motion and adheres to the screen wires. With these three factors combined, the screening efficiency of ordinary equipment drops significantly after just a few hours of operation.
Bouncing Ball Cleaning System
The Gaofu S49 series rotary vibrating sieve is equipped with a food‑grade silicone bouncing ball cleaning system that continuously taps the screen during operation, effectively preventing chili powder from blinding the mesh. This cleaning method is continuous and automatic, requiring no manual intervention, and serves as the standard anti‑blinding configuration for chili powder screening.
Ultrasonic System (Optional)
For ultra‑fine chili powder (above 80 mesh) or applications with severe electrostatic adhesion, an optional ultrasonic cleaning system can be added. The ultrasonic system superimposes a high‑frequency, low‑amplitude vibration wave on the screen surface, keeping the material in a suspended state and effectively inhibiting adhesion, friction, wedging and other blinding factors.
Practical results: Traditional rotary vibrating screens handling high‑viscosity fine powders often require stoppage for cleaning every 2 hours. With the ultrasonic system, the equipment can run continuously for 12 hours or more without cleaning, with both throughput and screening accuracy significantly improved.
As chili powder is a seasoning consumed directly, the hygiene and safety of production equipment must be the top priority.
All material‑contact parts of the Gaofu chili powder rotary vibrating sieve are made of high‑quality 304 food‑grade stainless steel , with finely polished surfaces and no dead corners for material accumulation. Seals are made of food‑grade silicone , non‑toxic and odourless, ensuring a pure and contamination‑free screening process that fully complies with food GMP standards.
For production lines requiring even higher cleanliness, 316L stainless steel is also available. The equipment features a fully enclosed structure , with screening taking place inside a sealed chamber to effectively prevent dust escape.
Efficiency Selection: From Screen Change Speed to Continuous Operation Capability
Quick Screen Changes – Reducing Downtime
Different batches of chili powder may require different fineness levels. The Gaofu rotary vibrating sieve uses a unique mother‑child screen frame structure , allowing screen changes in just 3 to 5 minutes and extending screen service life. This design greatly reduces downtime when switching between different product specifications.
Continuous Operation – Supporting Large‑Scale Production
During screening, impurities and oversize material are automatically discharged, enabling 24‑hour continuous production. For chili deep‑processing enterprises producing thousands of tonnes annually, continuous operation capability directly determines overall line capacity.
Flexible Adaptation to Workshop Layout
The discharge ports can be rotated 360° to adapt to different workshop layouts. Whether for new plants or retrofits of existing workshops, flexible deployment is achieved.
Based on the selection criteria above, the Gaofu S49 series rotary vibrating sieve offers the following configuration options for seasoning factories:
| Selection Dimension | Recommended Configuration | Application Scenario |
| Screen mesh | 40‑45 mesh (standard) / 60‑80 mesh (fine) | Standard chili powder / Premium fine powder |
| Number of decks | Single deck (impurity removal) / 2‑3 decks (classification) | Raw material impurity removal / Coarse and fine classification |
| Cleaning method | Bouncing balls (standard) / Ultrasonic (optional) | Standard conditions / Ultra‑fine or high‑static applications |
| Equipment material | 304 stainless steel (standard) / 316L stainless steel (optional) | Food‑grade standards / Higher cleanliness requirements |
| Screen diameter | 600‑1,200 mm | Selected according to throughput requirements |
